Give Out of Generosity & With Excellence
Malachi 3:6-10; Matthew 6:24; Galatians 6:7-10; II Corinthians 9:1-7; II Corinthians 8:1-9
What should giving look like? Throughout scripture before the law was instituted, the word “first” was used….first born, first fruits. “First” meant being grateful for God always being faithful in the lives of His people. This was a natural response to His goodness; from a heart that has been impacted by the faithfulness of God…by saying what has been given to me is not mine…happy to give back. What happens to the heart of man? We start to think “we” have the ability to achieve….our own joy, to grow, to be completely independent. We have to understand that it was out of the common goodness and grace of God that we are able to earn money, to work….”we” did/do not earn it. So this has nothing to do with tithe….it has everything to do with what’s going on in the heart of man and it is then exposed in their tithe….the evidence….hearts are being exposed.
What is your heart tied to? We don’t give to impress God, we give because we are impressed by God.
The standard of giving in the New Testament is to give out of generosity and with excellence. The blessing and reaping from the gift has already been had by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. His stripes gave us hope and life forevermore.
